We love our beers and like to talk about them a lot. Please sign up!
Wuchak Black is the latest specialty brew from brewmaster Don Harms. This beer will be arriving annually to Ottawa in mid January and will be gone before spring arrives. The style is Cascadian Dark Ale, also known as a Black IPA or an American Black Ale.
The pitch black colour introduces you to roasted malt
flavours, but with a major hop presence you would expect from an IPA. At 6.4% and 76 IBU’s, you can appreciate this
beer being described as bitter, strong and black.
What the heck is a Wuchak? Wuchak is a term used by
First Nations People and over time, wuchak was slowly
transformed into the term – woodchuck. When you drive
around Ottawa, you will often notice these groundhogs (aka woodchucks) popping up out of their burrows along the Queensway and the Hunt Club parkway.
You can enjoy this beer on tap at select locations around Ottawa or stop by and pick up a growler fresh from the brewery.

Every month we develop a cask conditioned beer and deliver firkins to the Cheshire Cat as well as the Arrow and Loon.
For the month of January we introduced a beer known as Dark and Stormy (nicknamed Don and Stormy for our brewmaster Don Harms). Dark and Stormy is made with a base of Kichesippi 1855 and then we implemented the krausen method for the conditioning. Krausening is when wort is added to the fermented/finished beer to carbonate. This allows for a very natural carbonation and conditioning in the firkin.
Be sure to check out the monthly casks that are available the first week of each month.

We have now polished off two full batches of the Kichesippi Logger and are waiting on a 3rd batch that is currently in the fermenters. When we released this Penn Porter style brew, we really had no idea how well it would be received. Needless to say, the feedback has been tremendous and well beyond our expectations. As of right now, we are currently out of stock on the Logger but will have some available again starting Friday December 16th. If you would like to try some on tap around Ottawa, please stop into one of the following establishments who have been pouring the product.

Last Friday we launched he second beer in our portfolio – Kichesippi 1855. This beer is a dark ale with 27 IBU’s and 5.2% Alc. Mayor Jim Watson was on hand to pour the first official pint and proclaimed it Kichesippi Beer Day in the City of Ottawa.
The 1855 is our way of thanking Ottawa and surrounding communites for supporting us during out first year in business. Our first anniversary is coming up next week on April 29th. For those wondering what the number 1855 means – Ottawa was incorporated on January 1, 1855.
For more details on the event, check out the blog by Ron Eade of the Ottawa Citizen. Thank you again to the over 100 people who stopped by the brewery to help us celebrate the launch.

Another fun and successful tasting last month at the Savour Ottawa Annual Networking Summit and Trade Show, held at the National Arts Centre.
Savour Ottawa is an organization that is committed to emphasizing and promoting the Ottawa region’s food and agricultural products, to local residents and to Ottawa’s visitors. It’s a concept that closely mirrors the ideals upon which the Kichesippi Beer Co. was founded.
At Kichesippi, we believe in promoting our city and it’s surrounding communities. We have so much to be proud of, from our fascinating history to the quality of our rich and diverse culinary scene.
At the show, we met many people who share our pride and passion for making great local products. From cheese and meats, to beer and wine, there are some magnificent local foodstuffs out there. Let’s share them with our friends and our guests. Next time you have a visitor from out of town, yes, show them our historical buildings and our stunning natural scenery. Take them for a skate on the canal. But don’t forget some of the other things that are unique to our region. Take them for a pint of Ottawa’s local beer, Kichesippi Natural Blonde, and let them try some great local foods in one of our restaurants. (Go to www.savourottawa.ca for restaurants promoting local producers)
We in the National Capital region are lucky to have access to some of the finest products in the country. So let’s enjoy them!

Thanks to everyone who came to see us at the Kichesippi booth at the 25th anniversary edition of The Ottawa Wine and Food Show.
The Kichesippi gang spent a fantastic three days giving out roughly 1,800 samples of Natural Blonde. Allowing for those who came back twice, or three times (we stopped counting after three times!), we figure that’s over 1,000 new Longnosers added to the Longnose nation since last week.
The weekend also saw the debut of our stunning new bar. We here at Kichesippi love a good story, and is this ever a good one. Built from pine timbers salvaged from the bottom of the Ottawa River, 100 years or more after they were submerged, the bar was a focal point for visitors the entire weekend. The heart of our company grew from the river and its history, so to be able to help showcase that with our bar was very fitting and means a lot to us.
Other highlights included hanging out with our pub and restaurant partners and trying their delights, creating new relationships with local businesses, coffee tequila, lobster poutine and the invention of keg delivery by skateboard.
See you next year at the new Ottawa Wine and Food Festival.
